The Challenge

The customer had a pesky leak in the roof coming through into his bathroom ceiling. The roof was done 5 years previous and prior repairs had done nothing to fix the issue. The ceiling had bubbled, paint was peeling and water dripped during windy rainfalls. The customer believed it had to do with the flashing around the chimney as that is where the bathroom is located.

The Solution

The Roofing Specialist Team found that the shingles were not finished on the chimney portion facing the house, there was no ice and water shield underneath and no drip edge. The previous repairs had foam expanded around the chimney but wind driven rain was still getting in around the front, travelling across, underneath and leaking around the whole chimney.

The way to fix the problem was to reinstall the area around the chimney with new flashing then install a layer of ice and water shield and reshingle the area properly.
